Igam Portion 1034 Project Brief

Lae – the industrial heart of Papua New Guinea – is entering a new phase of growth, opportunity, and transformation. A bold vision is now taking shape with the Igam Portion 1034 Development Project, a landmark subdivision that will help reshape the urban landscape of Lae City.

The Igam Project is a major urban development initiative that will deliver over 1,500 residential, commercial and special purpose allotments for public utilities, creating one of the largest modern communities in the region. Officially launched in December 2025, the project represents a strong commitment to strategic urban expansion and sustainable city development. Early works and site preparation commenced in the first quarter of 2026, with initial phases of the project expected to be completed by mid-2026, marking the beginning of a significant transformation of the Igam area.

The development goes beyond simply subdividing land. It will deliver critical infrastructure, including well-planned road networks, drainage systems, and essential utilities, forming the foundation of a modern township. The master plan also provides for community infrastructure, including schools, sporting facilities, a health facility, open green spaces, and public service facilities to support a vibrant and livable community.

In the initial phase alone, 1,300 residential allotments will be released to the market, providing thousands of families with the opportunity to build homes in a well-planned urban environment. The development will also include two hectares of Special Purpose Leases dedicated to public utilities, including schools, a health facility, a sports field, and green recreational spaces. In addition, a commercial precinct will be developed to accommodate a supermarket, service station, and a range of convenient retail outlets, creating a central hub for goods and services within the community.

The broader economic impact of the project is substantial. The development of residential allotments, construction of homes, supporting infrastructure, and the establishment of commercial facilities are expected to generate more than K2 billion in economic activity through spin-off investments and business opportunities, injecting significant momentum into the local Lae economy.

The project will also create hundreds of jobs across construction, engineering, logistics, and related support services, providing valuable employment opportunities, skills development, and income generation for Papua New Guineans.

From residential neighbourhoods to commercial activity, the Igam Project will help shape the next chapter of Lae’s growth – supporting population expansion, strengthening the city’s economic base, and creating a modern, well-planned community for future generations.
